Gurugram-based gastroenterologist Dr. Zubin Dev Sharma is helping reshape the future of digestive healthcare in India through a strong focus on Neuro-Gastroenterology, GI Motility, and physiology-driven treatment approaches. Since establishing advanced motility services in 2016, Dr. Sharma has been at the forefront of integrating specialized diagnostics, therapeutic innovation, and academic development into modern gastroenterology practice.
Currently associated with Fortis Memorial Research Institute, Dr. Sharma has played a significant role in developing one of North India’s few dedicated GI Motility and Pelvic Floor Disorder programs. His work focuses on patients suffering from chronic and difficult-to-diagnose gastrointestinal conditions such as refractory GERD, chronic constipation, bloating, swallowing disorders, pelvic floor dysfunction, gastroparesis, and disorders of gut–brain interaction.
At a time when many patients with long-standing digestive symptoms continue to receive only symptomatic treatment, Dr. Sharma has advocated for a more scientific and mechanism-based approach to diagnosis and care. By integrating advanced technologies including high-resolution esophageal manometry, anorectal physiology testing, EndoFLIP, breath testing, transit studies, and biofeedback therapy into routine clinical practice, his program aims to identify the underlying physiological causes behind chronic digestive disorders.
One of the defining milestones in his journey has been the establishment of a comprehensive Advanced Constipation & Pelvic Floor Disorder Clinic, which now receives referrals from multiple tertiary care centers across India. The initiative reflects a broader shift in gastroenterology toward precision-driven digestive healthcare that combines physiology, technology, and minimally invasive treatment strategies.
Beyond clinical care, Dr. Sharma has actively contributed to the academic growth of Neuro-Gastroenterology and GI Motility across the country. He has served as faculty at several national conferences and workshops, delivering lectures and conducting hands-on immersion training programs on advanced motility testing, esophageal dysmotility, EndoFLIP, and disorders of gut–brain interaction. His efforts have also helped encourage younger gastroenterologists to explore the rapidly evolving field of motility sciences and advanced physiology.
Another important aspect of his work is the integration of motility science with advanced therapeutic and third-space endoscopy. By combining physiology-driven diagnostics with minimally invasive endoscopic therapies and advanced GERD interventions, Dr. Sharma believes the future of gastroenterology lies in highly personalized and precision-based digestive care.
Speaking about the vision behind his work, Dr. Sharma emphasized the need for greater awareness around Neuro-Gastroenterology and GI Motility in India. He believes that many patients with chronic bloating, reflux, constipation, abdominal discomfort, and IBS-like symptoms often remain underdiagnosed because deeper physiological abnormalities are overlooked. Through clinical innovation, education, workshops, and multidisciplinary collaboration, he aims to help establish Neuro-Gastroenterology as a recognized and essential subspecialty in Indian digestive healthcare.
With growing awareness, increasing adoption of advanced technologies, and a stronger focus on patient-centered precision medicine, Dr. Zubin Dev Sharma’s work represents an important step toward transforming the way complex digestive disorders are understood and treated in India.
