Hyderabad (Telangana) [India]: Informa Markets in India, the leading organiser of B2B exhibitions, unveiled the highly anticipated 15th edition of the Hyderabad Jewellery Pearl & Gem Fair (HJF) in a grand opening ceremony at the HICC, Novotel, Hitech City, Hyderabad. This year’s edition brings together an impressive array of over 250 top exhibitors and is estimated to attract more than 8000 serious trade buyers. With a showcase of over 600 exclusive brands, the expo provides an unrivalled platform for exploring the latest trends and experiencing over 1,00,000+ cutting-edge and unique jewellery designs that redefine the industry. 

The esteemed inauguration of HJF 2023 was graced by distinguished guests and renowned industry leaders. Among them were Chief Guest *Mr. Jayesh Ranjan, Principle Secretary Telangana State, Government of India; Mr. Venkata Sekhar, Industrial Promotion Officer & Director Gems and Jewellery, Government of Telangana; Mr Jagdish Pershad Varma, President, Telangana Bullion, Gem & Jewellery Federation; Mr. Chetan Mehta, National Vice – President IBJA; Mr Nugroho Priyo Pratomo, Director Indonesian Trade Promotion Center (ITPC); Mr. Mukesh Agarwal, Convener, HJMA; Mr. Sumesh Wadhera, Director , AOJ; Mr. Rajendra Jain, Managing Director , SVAR Group; Mr. Yogesh Mudras, Managing Director, Informa Markets India and Ms. Pallavi Mehra, Group Director, Informa Markets India. 

Speaking at the inaugural ceremony of HJF 2023 said Mr. Jayesh Ranjan, Principal Secretary, Government of Telangana. “Along with 13 other sectors which have shown remarkable growth, the Gems & Jewellery Industry has enhanced our government’s reputation for ease of doing business. Our recent efforts to build the sector have successfully convinced new players to invest in the State and who have begun manufacturing in Hyderabad. We have focused on the grassroots, providing attractive incentives and have even taken additional responsibility for training, to address the shortage of skilled workers. Additionally, we encourage jewelry associations in Narayanpet and Karimnagar to equip themselves to provide job work for larger players and extend similar opportunities to them. We are also open to assisting overseas investors who are interested in setting up operations in India. An overall revival of this sector can be seen and is very promising. We see a very promising future for the Indian Gem & Jewellery Industry.” 

Mr. Venkata Sekhar, Industrial Promotion Officer & Director Gems and Jewellery, Government of Telangana said, “The Telangana Government has prioritized the gems and jewelry sector among the 14 sectors. In Maheshwaram, about 90 kms from Hyderabad major Jewellery manufacturers  have invested over INR 1000 Crores in refinery activities. We still have available land for additional gold refineries or processing units, which can benefit from financial incentives such as capital subsidies, power consumption reimbursements, and skill upgradation support. Additionally, we are initiating the Narayanpet Gold Souk, a collaborative space for multiple shops, envisioned as a manufacturing showroom. With over 5,000 outlets and 400 manufacturers in Hyderabad alone, our jewelry industry contributes significantly to employment as well. Events like HJF 2023 will go a long way in contributing towards development of this sector in Telangana.”

Speaking at the inaugural ceremony of HJF 2023, Mr Yogesh Mudras, Managing Director, Informa Markets in India said, “The Gems and Jewellery industry in South India is one of the thriving hubs for exquisite craftsmanship and rich heritage. Known for its impeccable artistry and attention to detail, this region has established itself as a significant player in the global jewellery market. Benefitting from a combination of factors such as abundant natural resources including a rich variety of gemstones like diamonds, emeralds, rubies, and sapphires and a skilled workforce with artisans and craftsmen, South India is also home to numerous jewellery clusters and manufacturing units. These clusters serve as bustling centers where raw materials are sourced, designs are conceptualized, and jewellery is manufactured. The industry provides employment opportunities to thousands of individuals, contributing to the region’s economic growth. Furthermore, South India’s jewellery industry has witnessed a seamless blend of tradition and innovation.”

Speaking at the inaugural function, Mr. Mukesh Agarwal, Convener, HJMA said, “Hyderabad has a significant workforce of more than 200,000 and the city is home to over 300 to 400 jewelry manufacturing units. The Hyderabad Gems, Pearl and Jewelry Fair will underline the city’s growing clout in the industry, with Telangana having more than 5,000 retail shops and in just a decade, has emerged as one of the top five manufacturing hubs in India. The city of Hyderabad also serves as a prominent manufacturing hub, supplying jewelry not only across India but also globally, with a strong demand in Dubai and other UAE countries. The gem and jewelry industry in India accounts for approximately 7% of total exports. The Industry has been given a target of achieving $200 billion in the next five years by the Prime Minister. The city of Hyderabad is attracting investments from both national and international players, and the Hyderabad jewelry manufacturing industry, has experienced significant advancements with the support of the Telangana Government.” 

HJF 2023 is being held in association with esteemed industry associations such as HITECH CITY JEWELLERY MANUFACTURERS ASSOCIATION (HJMA) and is supported by TBJA (TELANGANA BULLION GEMS & JEWELLERS FEDERATION) and IBJA (INDIA BULLION AND JEWELLERS ASSOCIATION. It is also powered by Honk Kong Jewellery & Gem fair.

The evening was dedicated to showcasing their exceptional craftsmanship, vision, and dedication to excellence. These young talents are the driving force behind the evolution and progression of South India’s vibrant Gem and Jewellery sector. 

The highlight of the evening was the glamourous Fashion Show, where top exhibitors took the stage to unveil the most captivating seasonal trends. Each creation displayed the perfect harmony of design, craftsmanship, and artistic expression, leaving a lasting impression on all in attendance. Beyond the awe-inspiring Fashion Show, the event provided a valuable networking opportunity for industry professionals, designers, and trendsetters. Attendees had the privilege of connecting with influential individuals who shape the future of the Gems and Jewellery landscape, fostering collaborations and exchanging innovative ideas.

Along side the expo, the industry will also get opportunity to attend an insightful conference and interactive workshops. These sessions shed light on emerging trends, market dynamics, and the future of the industry.
