Hostelbird Takes Flight: India’s First Homegrown Hostel Booking Platform Set to Redefine Budget Travel

Delhi, [India], April 11, 2025: In a world where travel is not just about destinations but also memorable experiences, Delhi-based Hostelbird emerges as India’s first dedicated hostel booking platform, developed for the modern traveler. Along with co-founder Mohammed Uzair, Bhat Aabid launched this hostel booking platform where backpackers, solo travelers, and Gen Z explorers can locate their desired hostels based on location and reviews.

From Srinagar to Startup Success

Aabid’s childhood experiences—growing up in the vibrant and culturally rich alleys of Downtown Srinagar and traveling solo across India and abroad—made him realize one of the major gaps in the country’s hospitality industry. There were no platforms that catered to the needs of hostel travel. While international platforms existed, none catered specifically to Indian users, with the right blend of cultural understanding, regional customer support, and trusted payment options like UPI. Hostelbird fills that critical gap.

Reimagining Indian Travel Through Hostels and Human Connections

Hostelbird is not just an accommodation site but also a community-focused ecosystem, making solo and group travel much more meaningful, accessible and affordable. Whether travellers are searching for a long-term co-living stay, taking part in a bike tour or just wishing to connect with other travelers, Hostelbird brings all of this together in one experience. Hostels can also post events, job openings, and even promote solo travel tour groups, while travelers can chat and plan trips together directly through the platform.

Impact of Hostelbird: Redefining the Way India Travels

The platform has entered the market at an opportunistic time. The global hostel industry is valued at $4.6 billion (₹38,280 crores), and India contributes more than ₹6,300 crores.
