High Commissioner Of Malaysia To India To Undertake Working Visit To Chennai

H.E. Dato’ Muzafar Shah Mustafa, High Commissioner of Malaysia to the Republic of India will be undertaking a working visit to Chennai from 12 until 14 December, 2024. It will be his first visit to Chennai since assuming his post in October 2023. The High Commissioner of Malaysia is scheduled to pay a courtesy call onH.E. R. N. Ravi, Governor of Tamil Nadu and Senior Government Official during the visit. He will also meet business community in Chennai to explore opportunities and exchange views in strengthening the economic cooperation between Malaysia and India.

India and Malaysia established bilateral relations in 1957. In terms of trade and investment, both countries signed the Malaysia-India Comprehensive Economic Cooperation Agreement (MICECA) in February 2011. The total bilateral trade volume in 2023 was USD 16.53 billion. India was Malaysia 11th largest export destination, and 12th largest import source.Within ASEAN, Malaysia ranks as India’s third largest trading partner.

Among the Malaysian companies that are currently operating in the State of Tamil Nadu are PETRONAS, Eversendai Corporation Berhad, Nasi Kandar Pelita Sdn. Bhd., Thirupati Capital Sdn. Bhd, Volten Sdn. Bhd., DXN Marketing Sdn. Bhd. and Mr. Geo Technology Sdn. Bhd. PETRONAS and Indian Oil joint venture, Indian Oil Petronas Private Limited (IPPL) handles a substantial amount of LPG supplies in India from it’s state of the arts facility in Ennore, Tamil Nadu and Haldia, West Bengal.

Tamil Nadu is also becoming an important source of tourist for Malaysia with more than 30 flights operates weekly from major airports in Tamil Nadu to Kuala Lumpur. Until September this year, more than 800,000 tourists from India visited Malaysia.

This visit is expected to bolster bilateral relations, enhance economic cooperation, and strengthen the longstanding bonds between Malaysia and India particularly with The State of Tamil Nadu.
