“7 in 10 Indian Homes Found Hidden Dust Despite Daily Cleaning” – Akiara

Mumbai, (Maharashtra) [India], September 15, 2025: A quick dipstick survey by Akiara has uncovered an unsettling truth about household cleaning in India:

  • 7 in 10 respondents found hidden dust and dirt in mattresses, sofas, and curtains despite sweeping and mopping daily.
  • Over 50% reported sneezing or watery eyes when cleaning bedding or home linen.
  • Young parents were the most concerned, citing fears of allergens in children’s play areas.

“I thought my home was spotless because I sweep twice a day,” said Meenal Shah, a homemaker from Pune. “But when I used a modern vacuum cleaner for the first time, I couldn’t believe the amount of fine dust it pulled out of my mattress. It was honestly disgusting.”

Families also admitted that corners, under-furniture spaces, and soft furnishings trapped far more dust than they imagined. “We always believed mopping was enough,” said Ashok Nair from Bengaluru. “But seeing what came out of my sofa was a wake-up call. It’s not the dirt you see, it’s the dirt you can’t.”

Amit Agrawal, Founder of Akiara, said there’s a shift in awareness. “Indian families have always taken pride in cleanliness — but now they’re realising it’s not just about shiny floors. At Akiara, we’re offering cordless vacuum cleaners with ultra-sealed HEPA filtration and powerful suction to capture microscopic allergens like dust mites and bacteria, so homes are not just clean, but truly safe.”

With urban homes becoming more enclosed and less ventilated, traditional sweeping and mopping are proving insufficient. Families are beginning to view modern vacuum cleaners not as a luxury, but as an essential health safeguard for children, the elderly, and everyone who spends long hours indoors.
